Anki sage advice - 1/n
So somebody DMed me, asking me for my Sociology Anki cards,
Let me share my perspective, which I believe will save you time.
There are generally two categories of things you might want to create flashcards for.
First, there are hard factual pieces of information generally presented in a tabular format.
For example: "Who is the Prime Minister of India?" Answer: Modi.
Second, there are broader concepts and topics.
For example: "What is Poverty Ratio?" OR "what is Alienation?"
Now,
When it comes to hardcore facts i.e. the first type, you can efficiently generate flashcards using AI or leverage pre-made cards from others. = that is INDEED the ideal way.
However, for concepts and topics i.e. the second type, you'll find the best ROI when you create YOU OWN flashcards. And ideally, by manually typing them out. » cards banate banaate hi yaad hojate hai (You memorize as you create the cards)
Otherwise, if you rely on AI to generate concept cards OR use someone else's, it will likely take you ten times longer to actually learn those concepts
RATIONALE: Anki is simply a spaced repetition tool, designed to reinforce information through spaced intervals. in the easiest of words, its just a tool, which shows you your notes/questions with a spaced interval.
=> It's most effective for memorizing material you've already learned. And it's NOT a primary learning tool itself.
completely based on MY personal experience of using Anki for months. No Science/research/experiment involved. take it or leave it.
Facts, fully agree.
